G. BRUCE KUEHNE
Bruce Kuehne is a scholar and a gentleman, and has practiced law in Louisiana since 1976, after graduation from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, he was a journalist for the Harvard Law Record, and recalls the interesting experience of interviewing then presidential candidate Jimmy Carter for the Harvard newspaper. His interest in journalism and the power of the written word began in high school. He attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans, where he participated in the liberal arts honors curriculum, lettered in football and track and participated in many other extracurricular activities.
Bruce graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tulane in 1968, with the highest departmental cumulative grade point average in the graduating class, having been on the Dean’s List for all semesters, and being admitted into Phi Beta Kappa and the Scholars & Fellows Program. His major was English Literature, with minors in Psychology and History.
Bruce graduated from Tulane during the Vietnam War and his first full-time employment was with the United States Air Force, in which he served as an Information Officer. His job during this time included News Media Relations, Public and Governmental Relations, and supervision of newspaper publication and radio & television broadcasting.
Bruce’s legal practice has covered many areas of the law, including bankruptcy; business and consumer transactions; secured transactions; real estate; litigation, including (commercial, consumer, bankruptcy, ERISA, tax and securities). Bruce has been active in the Louisiana Bar Association, including many years of service on the Professional Malpractice Insurance Committee, on which he served as Chair for several years. He is an emeritus member of the Dean Henry George McMahon American Inn of Court and served as Master, Recorder and Counselor (vice president) of that organization. He was a founding director of MidSouth National Bank (now MidSouth Bank). Bruce was a candidate for the Nineteenth Judicial District Court in 1996. He also served as Childrens’ Leader in Bible Study Fellowship International for many years and is currently an adult group Bible study leader. Bruce is a voluntary teacher of English for international students on the LSU campus and is an adjunct professor in the LSU legal studies program. He is currently a director of Gulf Coast Teaching Family Services, Inc., a large non-profit organization which provides social services to the needy.
MARCUS T. FOOTE
Marcus T. Foote is a partner with Kuehne & Foote, APLC. He practices exclusively in the area of Family Law. His primary focus is on Community Property and Retirement/Pension Divisions. He has been board-certified in the area of Family Law by the Louisiana Board of Specialization since January 2002.
Marcus has been the driving force behind the firm’s newest practice area — In Marriage QDROs. He has also authored numerous FooteNotes containing helpful practice tips on complex areas of the law that are followed by attorneys throughout the state.
Marcus is a current board member of the Louisiana State Bar Association Family Law Council and is a past president of the Baton Rouge Bar Association Family Law Section. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the Louisiana Scholars’ College Regents Program located at Northwestern State University, and his Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University Law Center. Marcus also instructs a National Business Institute CLE each year on forensic accounting and retirement division issues.
Dennis Fitzgerald
Dennis Fitzgerald graduated from the LSU Law Center, in 1991, and has been practicing Family Law since graduating. He is an experienced attorney and counselor at law, and limits his practice to the Baton Rouge area and the surrounding parishes. For over thirty yearsDennis has handled divorces, community property division, child custody and support issues, spousal support cases and cases requiring injunctive relief. He focuses on good outcomes for his clients, in and out of courtrooms, and through his experience heunderstands that good outcomes can be achieved without destroying relationships. Whether the matter be contested or uncontested, his goal is to efficiently bring matter to a conclusion.
Paula Ouder
Paula Ouder is the estate planning attorney at Kuehne & Foote, APLC. Her practice focuses on wills, trusts, powers of attorney and successions. She assists seniors in need of Medicaid coverage for long-term nursing home care and helps families of individuals with special needs plan for their best future. Paula also handles interdictions, continuing tutorships and emancipations.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Tulane University. Paula enjoyed a career as a newspaper photojournalist and editor and worked in communications for the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program at Louisiana State University before becoming an attorney. She earned her Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center, where she graduated magna cum laude.
Paula believes that storytelling is the link that ties her two career paths together. “I love hearing clients’ stories of their lives, their families and their loved ones,” she explained. “Most people think of estate planning as a means of passing on your wealth to the next generation. It’s also about passing on your history and your values and a sense of who you are.”
Making estate planning understandable and simple is Paula’s highest priority. “There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding successions and estate planning, particularly in Louisiana,” she said. “Few people look forward to sitting down with a lawyer and planning for the possibility of their incapacity or the inevitability of their own passing. I enjoy demystifying the process and making it as painless as possible.”
